A Brief Introduction to "The Jeffreys from Kirkintilloch"
Our branch of the family has had a long association with Kirkintilloch - a town in East Dumbartonshire, Scotland. However we can date quite accurately that the Kirkintilloch connection only began in 1860 when Duncan Jeffrey moved there to become Gas Manager. Duncan's son - also Duncan is pictured above with his first wife Maggie Brown.
He moved from St Ninians near Stirling. The family seem to have originated there or in the nearby hamlet of Chartershall. The name Jeffrey (interchangeable with Jaffray or Jaffrey) seems to have been reasonably common in that area in the 18th and 19th centuries. We suspect there are many other branches of the family with their origins in the Stirling area as the same christian names appear in Jeffrey/Jaffrey families in Stirling, St Ninians, Cambusbarron, Denny and other towns and villages throughout Stirlingshire and Clackmannan.
